With 12 women ranging in age from 25 to 64 and hailing from the sleepy village of Withernsea, Ruby Red Performers are anything from ordinary when it comes to dancing acts on Britain’s Got Talent.
Their audition got off to a bad start when they arrived in their washerwomen costumes and performed an uninspired introduction dance. It appears that Simon Cowell was a bit too eager to buzz them off because of this. The ladies quickly undressed to show their silk nightgowns and started a hot dance routine.
More and more garments began to fall from the women’s bodies as they danced to the song “I Like the Way You Move” by BodyRockers, clearly channeling their wild side. The crowd was subdued during the slow introduction, but they went into full-on cheer mode once the performance picked up speed. The Ruby Red Performers’ dance became increasingly risqué until they staged a triumphant finale, now adorned with British flag tassels and down to their undergarments.
Ruby Red Performers’ audition, with its out-of-the-ordinary performance, appeared destined for YouTube stardom. Season 9 of Britain’s Got Talent featured an amateur burlesque dancing ensemble whose audition video garnered 16.7 million views. Because of this, their appearance became one of the most watched dance group performances in the show’s history. I mean, seriously, who could have seen the audition and not cracked a smile? It’s no wonder it went viral.
Home viewers loved the audition, writing things like “I don’t know exactly why, but this made me so happy and made my day!” into the comments block. I’m very into your energy. Your assurance is admirable. That act was an act of bravery on your part. In the semi-finals, the Ruby Red Performers returned to the program with a whole new act.
“I may have pressed my button a little early,” Simon Cowell admitted after the audition. He was the first to speak up. “That was brilliantly original and really entertaining – fantastic,” David Walliams remarked afterward.
With her remarks, “Ladies that has made my day,” Alesha Dixon continued to heap praise on herself. As time went on, it just improved. More importantly, you’re empowering women. It’s impressive, and I found it to be great.
In spite of Cowell’s earlier buzz off, the Ruby Red Performers managed to secure four judges’ yes votes, advancing them to the next round.
